SPENCER SAVINGS TEACHES CHILDREN TO SAVE IN CLIFTON
ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (May 5, 2009) – Ed Kurbansade, Clifton Branch Manger of Spencer Savings Bank, recently participated in “Teach Children to Save Day”. This is a national event that takes place on April 21st each year, where bankers visit local classrooms to teach the value of saving. Since it’s inception by the ABA Education Foundation in 1997, more than 60,000 bankers have reached an audience of 2.8 million young people.
Spencer visited Clifton’s School #3, located on Washington Avenue. The agenda included a lesson on the long-term benefits of saving, how to create a budget, and differentiating between needs vs. wants. The morning was full of interactive activities and the students seemed to really have great time learning about money! At the end of the event, each child received a certificate of participation in the “Teach Children to Save, Million Child Challenge.” They also went home with a Spencer Piggy Bank and a newsletter for them to review with their parents full of tips and ideas on how to raise a money conscious child.

It is crucial that our children in the community understand the value of money and how to properly manage it,” stated Janel Bazih, Marketing Manager at Spencer. “The children had such a great time! We showed them learning about money can be both fun and exciting.”
