SPENCER SAVINGS BANK DISPLAYS ART CREATED TO HEAL CHILDREN

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (March 31, 2010) – Spencer Savings Bank is currently showcasing art, created by children who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence. The art will be on display at the Clifton branch, located at 437 Piaget Avenue, until the end of April. This art work has been created by the children of the PALS (Peace, A Learned Solution) program, run by therapists and psychologists from the Riskin Children’s Center in Passaic County.

PALS is a six-month structured therapeutic program that teaches children, who have experienced/witnessed domestic violence, how to express their feelings peacefully via art. They use a host of modalities to assist children in the healing process, including art, play, drama and movement therapies. In the therapy session, children create artwork, play, use drama and/or dance that is representative of their traumatic experience. These expressive skills help the child create emotional distance from the trauma. The child can then learn how to set goals and apply peaceful solutions to conflict.

"We really believe in the PALS program and how it can help influence the lives of these children in a positive way," stated Ed Kurbansade, Clifton’s branch manager. "I am pleased that Spencer has the opportunity to work with this organization and am proud of all the great work they are doing in the community."

Visit Spencer’s Clifton branch located at 437 Piaget Avenue to view the beautiful artwork created by these children. Hours of operation: Monday - Wednesday and Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, Thursday 8:00am - 6:30pm and Saturday 8:30am - 1:00pm. For more information about the art exhibit, please contact Ed Kurbansade, Clifton branch manager at 973-478-4663.
