SPENCER SAVINGS BANK ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AND EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNTS
ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (July 1, 2010) – Spencer Savings Bank, headquartered in Elmwood Park, recently awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to middle school and high school students across the Spencer footprint. An award of $1,000 was given to each graduating high school student and a $500 Coverdell Education Savings Account (CESA) was awarded to each graduating middle school student, in recognition of their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
Since its inception in 2002, the Spencer Scholarship Program has awarded over $200,000 to exceptional students in recognition of their academic achievements. This year, over $20,000 went to families from 27 different schools. The program has had an overwhelming response and recognizable success throughout the surrounding communities. Criterion used to select winners include an outstanding GPA, a history of community involvement, demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in pursuing a career in business or finance.
"The accomplishments of these students is outstanding and it is our honor to recognize them. Spencer wants to help encourage these young adults to achieve their academic goals," said José B. On June 30th, Spencer Savings Bank hosted a reception for the winning students and their families at the branch office in Elmwood Park. The students were presented with their awards and were honored for their accomplishments.
Those awarded with $1,000 scholarships include: Vasil Martiko (Clifton High School), Kate McCann (Cranford High School), Jessica A. Ortega (Elizabeth High School)¸ Paulina Michalec (Elmwood Park Memorial High School), Miguela Sokoli (Garfield High School), Morgan Atanasio (Clark’s Arthur L. Johnson High School), Miranda Persaud (Lodi High School), Kelly Rogers (Lyndhurst High School), Michael Nicholas DiGiulio (West Essex Regional High School), William McLellan (Nutley High School), Intisar Foster (Roselle’s Abraham Clark High School), Katelyn Laube (Saddle Brook High School), Vibhuti Shah (Union Senior High School) and David Bak (Wallington High School).
Those awarded $500 CESA accounts include: Alexander Balbin (Clifton’s Christopher Columbus Middle School), Geena Martorana (West Essex Regional High School), Erin Toye (Nutley’s John H. Walker Middle School), Allen Tran (Roselle’s Abraham Clark High School), Shamal Siriwardana (Saddle Brook Middle School), Olubusayo Grace Alofe (Union’s Bernet Middle School), Emilia Galka (Wallington Jr./Sr. High School), Melanie Aleman (Elizabeth’s Theodore Roosevelt Middle School), Aleksandra Pasek (Garfield Middle School), Prubhjot Kaur (Lodi’s Thomas Jefferson Middle School), Sara Law (Garwood’s Lincoln Middle School), Jakira Jimenez (Cranford’s Hillside Avenue School) and Sabrina Zafar (Elmwood Park Memorial Middle School).
