Scammers work year-round, often targeting banking customers and credit or debit card users. Scammers send text messages or make phone calls claiming to be from an individual’s bank, creating a sense of urgency by citing alleged credit or debit card transactions.

While scammers have a variety of techniques, it’s important to stay cognizant of common banking scams, such as text messages and phone calls citing fraudulent activity.

If you receive a text message or phone call from an unfamiliar number claiming to have information about your banking activity, do not respond to the text and let the call go to voicemail.

Scammers can be incredibly savvy and impersonate banks by mimicking language and using similar phone numbers. The scammers may urge you to click a link or respond to their message—but you should never engage with suspicious messages.

Spencer Savings Bank will never ask for your online banking username, password, or PIN via text, email, or phone call. If you receive any such request, please do not respond and contact our Customer Service Center immediately at 1-800-363-8115.
